American Horses Are Being Slaughtered
Horses are illegal to slaughter in the United States. However, an underground network of shady buyers and sellers, otherwise known as “kill pens” funnel over 20,000 horses per year to slaughterhouses in Mexico and Canada, where horse meat is legal for human consumption. Unlike other meat industries, with no oversight, these horses are often malnourished, injured, and suffering as they travel through the network.
