The Gold Senior Program
Where Every Horse Deserves a Dignified Final Chapter

At Lucky Break Rescue, we believe age and experience is a story worth honoring. Our Gold Senior Program is dedicated to giving senior horses the care, respect, and soft landing they’ve earned.
Many of the horses we take in are forgotten - or tossed away - because of their age. Thin, neglected, and often discarded after a lifetime of service, they arrive needing more than just food. They need time, safety, and a second chance to simply be horses again.
We specialize in refeed programs tailored for senior equines, focusing on slow, careful rehabilitation that meets each horse where they are. Whether they're dealing with dental issues, metabolic challenges, or the long-term effects of neglect, we build a plan that supports true recovery.
Our passion goes beyond rescue. We believe in the quiet magic of connecting been-there-done-that seniors with first-time riders and children. These seasoned horses are steady, patient, and wise — the perfect teachers for those just beginning their horse journey. To us, they’re truly worth their weight in gold.
Most of our seniors go on to find new homes. Others stay with us for the rest of their lives, surrounded by full hay nets, gentle grooming and people who see their value. Even fewer are hospice situations - where we help them cross the rainbow bridge surrounded by love and appreciation.
Because they’ve given everything.
Because they still have so much to offer.

First Generation Riders
Carrying on the Tradition of Horse Ownership

Our First Generation Riders program pairs rescue horses with children who want to experience horse ownership and carry on our traditions. We provide access to the horse, training on their care and riding, and regularly check in with horse and rider to ensure compatibility. We provided 200 kids access to these horses so far.
Equines In Arms
A Companion for Those Who Have Served

Our Equines In Arms program pairs veterans facing PTSD and other combat injuries with a horse that can bring them companionship, purpose, and peace. We provide access to the horse, training on their care and riding, and regularly check in with horse and rider to ensure compatibility. We provided at least 25 veterans with horses so far.
