About Lucky Break Rescue

Lucky Break Ranch (LBR) is a 501c3 horse rescue dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating, and preserving domesticated horses in the American west - ensuring every horse has a home, a purpose, and carrying on the tradition of horsemanship for future generations. LBR specializes in saving, rehabilitating and finding quality homes for senior horses in need. We believe old horses, are worth their weight in gold.

Our History

Lucky Break was started by a husband and wife team, Cait and Alex. Cait has been a horse lover her entire life, and knew the house of horrors equines go through in kill pens and in the slaughterhouse pipeline. As a first generation cowgirl, her first horse was a rescue - Zane. With Zane’s inspiration, she started rescuing several horses herself. After purchasing a trail riding company in 2020, her trail riding company. Corral West Horse Adventures, became the only trail riding company in the United States to use exclusively rescued horses. She and her husband opened Lucky Break Rescue in 2020 to expand their horse rescue efforts beyond Corral West.

    Zane's Story

Zane the Appaloosa: The Horse Who Sparked a Movement

In 2016, Cait came across a photo of a horse listed in a kill pen. He was thin, worn down, and looked like he had already given up. But something stopped her.

He looked exactly like Dan, the horse she had grown up riding. Same varnished Appaloosa coat. Same presence, even in that state. She hadn’t planned to rescue a horse. But she couldn’t ignore this one.

    That horse became Zane.

He was her first rescue, and he made sure no one ever forgot it. Big personality, loud color, and a natural leader, Zane quickly became the lead horse at Corral West Horse Adventures. His comeback wasn’t just physical — he stepped into the role like he’d always belonged there.

Zane’s story resonated. What started with him grew into something much larger. He inspired the rescue of nearly 600 horses, each one a direct result of that first decision to say yes.

Along the way, Zane’s look and presence caught attention outside the ranch. He’s appeared in marketing campaigns for some of the Western industry's biggest brands. Not because he was polished — but because he was real.

Zane didn’t just get a second chance. He helped make sure hundreds of others got theirs too.
